It costs nothing. It means everything.
That is organ, eye and tissue donation. A bicycle serves as a symbol of progress, renewal and the moving circle of life like the donation and transplantation journey. We each carry the potential to help make life a “beautiful ride” for ourselves, and then for others, by registering as a donor, considering living donation, being a caregiver and championing the donate life cause.
Every 48 hours an Ohioan dies waiting for a transplant. More than 123,000 men, women and children are currently on the national waiting list for life-saving organ transplants. Thousands more are in need of tissue and cornea transplants to restore mobility, vitality and sight.
We could change this if more people register to become organ, eye and tissue donors. Give hope to those who wait. You will be inspired by stories of hope from recipients, donor family members and advocates.
Managed by the Ohio Department of Health, the Second Chance Trust Fund Advisory Committee and Donate Life Ohiowork to help solve the critical shortage of organ, eye and tissue donors through education and awareness efforts as well as promoting registration in the Ohio Donor Registry.
The Second Chance Trust Fund is funded by monetary donations given when one applies or renews their driver’s license or state identification card. Your $1 contribution can give hope to thousands of Ohioans waiting for an organ, eye or tissue donation. Next time you renew, please consider making a donation!
There are also Donate Life Ohio license plates and $5 of each plate is given to the fund. Independent monetary donations are also received in memory of someone or in support of a cause.
